DGT Terminal Update & Import Documentation

DGT Terminal Update: 

Over the past two weeks, Durban Gateway Terminal (DGT) has experienced severe congestion due to limited appointment slot availability, resulting in delays and in some cases additional charges. To improve terminal operations, DGT will implement a revised appointment allocation process effective 10 July 2026:

• Import appointments will now be released 24 hours in advance (previously 48 hours).

• Additional import slots may be released throughout the day, subject to terminal capacity.

• Export appointments will continue to be reviewed and released throughout the day as capacity allows.

  
  

While these changes are intended to improve appointment availability and terminal efficiency, some delays may continue while congestion eases. Our service providers are monitoring port bookings closely and securing appointments as they become available.

Import Documentation:

To help avoid unnecessary clearance and delivery delays, we kindly remind importers to submit complete shipping documentation to SCT as early as possible, allowing sufficient time to resolve any documentation queries before the vessel arrives. Please note that vessel berthing schedules can change at short notice. Early submission of documents is therefore essential to ensure customs clearance and shipping line releases are completed on time, helping to avoid container overstay charges.

In addition, shipping lines may send ANF requests and Pre-Stop Notices directly to importers. These notices require prompt action and should be forwarded to SCT immediately so we can attend to the necessary customs and regulatory requirements without delay.
