Dear Valued Client

The United States has introduced new tariffs on South African exports, adding further uncertainty for businesses trading with the US. The new measures took effect on Friday, 24 July, under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974. South Africa has been placed in the upper tariff tier and will face a 12.5% duty on affected exports to the United States.

While the immediate impact will be greatest for exporters, importers and businesses with US-linked supply chains should also monitor developments closely, as the changes may influence trade flows, sourcing decisions and freight demand over the coming months.
