We would like to provide a brief update on the ongoing Middle East tensions and the impact this is having on global freight movements. The situation remains fluid and may change rapidly, but we are monitoring developments daily to support your planning.

Air Freight:

Air cargo capacity remains severely constrained. Major Middle Eastern carriers such as Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad are currently operating at very limited capacity or not at all, which has created a significant backlog in both imports and exports.

While we are securing space with alternative airlines for exports, departures are inconsistent and subject to last-minute changes. Freight rates remain exceptionally high due to limited capacity and strong demand. Clients should expect higher airfreight rates, possible delays, and rollovers as well as limited space availability on short notice bookings. Alternative airlines are accepting, however rollovers are being experienced and there are currently no departures operating through JNB or DUR.

Sea Freight:

Although our core trade lanes are not directly affected at this stage, we are experiencing knock-on effects globally. Alternative ports are becoming increasingly congested as vessels divert from affected areas. Major carriers have implemented rate increases and are applying additional surcharges, with longer transit times becoming common.

While South African trade continues to move, we are feeling the impact through rising costs and operational delays. We remain in close contact with carriers and partners and will keep you informed of any significant changes that may affect your shipments, including regular updates on routing viability.
