Review of the tariff structure for imported steel products - ITAC Report

Please take note of the latest developments following the ongoing ITAC review into South Africa’s steel industry and tariff structure. In addition to proposed tariff increases, ITAC is also considering the implementation of import permit controls, import surveillance systems, stricter monitoring of tariff classifications, and enhanced customs compliance measures relating to steel imports. At this stage, the proposed measures remain under review and consultation. Importers involved in the steel supply chain are encouraged to remain aware of the potential for increased customs scrutiny on steel-related products.
